Electric solar photovoltaics (PV) systems, the basics....
A solar PV system will generate 'Green' electricity via the sun. This electricity can be used to power your home, just as normal electricity is. It can power anything from a light bulb to a standard household appliance.
 Generating your own electricity using solar PV enables you to do your bit for the environment by reducing your carbon emissions, not only that but you will reduce or eradicate your electricity bills as you will no longer be using power from the National Grid.
Here we have a very basic diagram of how the solar system will work. By attaching it to your current house supply you can see that, through the inverter, we can feed back into the National Grid. By using the meter you will be able to see how much you have used and how much you have generated.

Facts and figures....
The government's new generation Feed-in Tariffs (FiT), which is part of the government's Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme, are all an effort to try to get people to switch to more renewable energies, helping the UK to reduce its carbon footprint and meet the 2020 EU emissions target.
The "FiT" will pay for every unit of electricity that is produced via renewable sources like solar PV, this means you will be paid for the units of electricity you produce even if you use them yourself.
The scheme was started on 1st April 2010 and has been guaranteed for 25 years. With this new "FiT", you make a return on your initial investment a lot sooner, and once you have made the initial monies back you will be receiving free electricity and be getting paid for it.

Solar systems can be a very lucrative investment......
Solar PV sytems installed under the FiT have guaranteed payments for 25 years and can provide an extra selling point/ financial benefit when selling your home as they are transferrable.
Just imagine you were buying a home which was currently generating its own electricity free of charge, this would be very attractive to anyone. Especially when OFGEM is warning of a 25% increase in prices for fossil fuelled energy within the next decade.

Based on a typical three bedroom detatched home the following should apply....**
Average electricity cost per year 3300kWh x 14p per kWh = £462
Cost of installing an on roof 3.84kw 16 module system = £8,500*
Approximate power generated per
year from solar PV system = 3401kWh
Annual income from Solar PV System 3401kWh x 35p = £1,190.35
Approximate power generated over
25 years from solar PV system 85,025kWh x 36.5p = £31,034.12
Typical payback time of this system £8,500/£1,190.35 = 7.14 Years
Return on Investment over 25 years No Inflation accounted for = £22,534.12
